Vol. 207 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Motor-Cycle Patrols.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider strengthening the motor-cycle patrol of the Garda Síochána in rural and urban areas with a view to promoting a better understanding of the rules of the road amongst road users, and also to assist in the prevention of crime.

The use of motor-cycles by the Garda Síochána has been considerably extended in recent years. The number of motor-cycles now in use is 149 as against 23 in 1958, and it is intended to provide ten more during the coming year.
