Vol. 208 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Children's Non-Inflammable Nightwear.

23.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he has power and, if not, whether he will take power, to order that all materials sold for children's nightgowns must be of a non-inflammable nature.

I have power under the Industrial Research and Standards Act, 1961, to prescribe a compulsory standard for a commodity where the safety of the purchasing public is concerned. The Institute for Industrial Research and Standards has been considering the advisability of having such a standard declared for children's nightgowns and I am awaiting their report on the matter.
