Vol. 208 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Bread.

26.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the reasons for the recent increase in the price of bread.

I have already indicated in reply to a previous question that I am having the recent increase in the price of bread examined in my Department and pending the outcome of this examination I cannot make any statements in the matter.

Pending the outcome of the examination, will the people have to pay more for bread?

I can say no more than that the Minister for Industry and Commerce is making an examination into the matter.

In other words, they must pay more and the Minister will consider it.

There is no standstill order there.

Will the Minister indicate why the announcement of an increase in the price of bread was made only after the people had voted in the Cork and Kildare by-elections?

You lost Cork.

(Interruptions.)

If you are so anxious to have a general election, why do you not have one?

Try the "I'm all right, Jack" theory on the people again.

Order. Will Deputies allow questions to proceed without a continuous barrage?
