Vol. 208 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Numbers in Employment.

1.

asked the Taoiseach the average number of persons employed in the State in each year since 1957.

2.

asked the Taoiseach why the practice of giving in official publications statistics of the numbers of employed in the State has been discontinued.

I propose, with your permission, Sir, to take Questions Nos. 1 and 2 together.

A full explanation of the reasons for the temporary discontinuance of the publication of annual estimates of the total labour force and of the numbers of persons at work in various branches of economic activity was given in Economic Statistics issued prior to the Budget 1963 (Pr. 7050). Such estimates for the period 1951-63 will appear in Economic Statistics—Budget 1964, which will be published tomorrow.
