Vol. 208 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Storage Licences.

43.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that Dublin Corporation will issue a petrol storage licence to a person who sends an application to them together with a fee of five shillings, whereas farmers who require such a licence have to apply to the local District Court and pay solicitor's fees and stamp duty; and if he will take steps to ensure that the farming community will have the same facilities in this matter as those in the Dublin area.

The position referred to in the Deputy's question arises under the Petroleum Act of 1871 which provides for the issue of petroleum storage licences by the local authorities in certain areas and by the district court in others. However, this legislation has been under review in my Department and I intend, in due course, to introduce new legislation which will provide for the licensing of petroleum stores in all areas by the appropriate local authorities.
