Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clontarf (Dublin) House Building Appeal.

53.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received an appeal from a decision of Dublin Corporation refusing to permit house building on land at Castle Avenue and Kincora Grove, Clontarf, Dublin; if it was recommended by him when granting a previous appeal relating to adjoining lands that the land which it is now proposed to develop should be acquired by Dublin Corporation as an amenity for the residents; whether Dublin Corporation is prepared to comply with this recommendation; and if the site is reserved as a public open space in the draft town plan.

I have received an appeal under the Town and Regional Planning Acts against a refusal by Dublin Corporation of permission for housing development on sites at Castle Avenue-Kincora Grove, Clontarf. The appeal is at present under consideration.

The sites affected by the appeal are part of an area around Clontarf Castle which was reserved for use as public open space in the draft town plan prepared by the Corporation. This reservation implied that the Corporation were prepared to purchase the area in due course. It was suggested to the Corporation when I made a previous Order in relation to an appeal affecting part of the area that they might consider acquiring the remaining lands north and south of Clontarf Castle. I understand that negotiations have been commenced by the Corporation with a view to acquiring an area north of the Castle.
