Vol. 208 No. 7

Written Answers. - Paroling of Prisoner.

99.

asked the Minister for Justice if a prisoner undergoing imprisonment, imposed by the Judge at the Cork Circuit Court, was granted parole during the month of March; and, if so, if he will state the reasons for the granting of such parole.

A period of temporary release from 24th March to 2nd April was granted to the prisoner in question.

It is not usual to disclose the reason why temporary release is granted in any individual case. It is my general practice to consider the grant of temporary release where I am satisfied that it would assist the eventual rehabilitation of a prisoner or where it might enable him to make special provision for his dependants or to safeguard his business or to procure employment or to attend at the obsequies or the serious illness of an immediate relative.
