It is not possible to estimate the effect on the revenue from income tax of the ninth round increase in wages and salaries in isolation from other factors arising from the general improvement in the economy which have brought about an upward trend in employee remuneration. However, if the Deputy will put down a suitable question for answer after Budget day, I shall be glad to furnish him with the Budget estimate of the increase in the amount of income tax to be collected under Schedule E as between 1963/64 and 1964/65.
