Vol. 208 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Recognition of Guild of Insurance Officials.

10.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has any statement to make concerning the persistent refusal of seven British insurance groups operating in this country to recognise the right of the Guild of Insurance Officials, a union affiliated to the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, to negotiate on behalf of their members in the employment of these groups; and whether he proposes to take any action in this matter.

My attention has been drawn to the position which is stated to exist between the Guild of Insurance Officials and certain British insurance companies with branches in this country. I have asked the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, who recently wrote to me in the matter, to let me have detailed information about it. Until I receive this information and have an opportunity of considering it, I am not in a position to indicate what action, if any, I might appropriately take.
