Vol. 208 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clara (Offaly) Water Supply.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the water supply to the town of Clara, County Offaly is cut off about 11 p.m. each night until the next morning; and that water, after cutting-off time, cannot be had for sanitary or any other use; what is the position in so far as his Department is concerned in this regard; when it is proposed to remedy this most unsatisfactory state of affairs; why these unusual circumstances exist in Clara; and if the local authority propose to take any action in the matter.

I am aware that the existing water supply in Clara is inadequate, and that the supply is cut off at night to conserve water. A scheme to provide an adequate water supply has been approved by me and contract documents are being prepared by the council's consulting engineer.
