Vol. 208 No. 9

Written Answers. - Dundalk Engineering Works.

29.

asked the Minister for Finance if the examination in relation to the Dundalk Engineering Works expenditure to which he referred in the reply to Question No. 16 of 28th February 1962 has yet been completed; if so, if he will indicate the result thereof; and if he will bring up to date the information included in such reply.

The examination referred to in the Deputy's Question was completed and a report on the prospects of the individual companies of the Dundalk group was submitted to me by the Industrial Credit Company. This was discussed between my Department and the Industrial Credit Company. It was agreed that it would also be necessary to have the position examined in the light of the accounts of the Dundalk companies for the year ended 31 March, 1963. The Industrial Credit Company has now conveyed to me the results of this further examination and certain recommendations of that Company are being considered in consultation with the Department of Industry and Commerce.

The information requested in the final part of the Deputy's question is: (a) accumulated losses of the Dundalk group of companies to 31 March, 1963, the latest date for which audited balance sheets are available, £1,791,000 and (b) total number at present employed in the group 761.
