Vol. 209 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Milk.

24.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state with regard to the price of milk what increase the wholesalers have got in their margin per gallon since 1951, exclusive of the present projected increase.

Continuous statutory control over the price of milk has been maintained for the period 1951 to date only in the Dublin Sale District and only in respect of sales of bottled milk delivered to the purchaser elsewhere than at the vendor's premises.

I am concerned only with the fixing of the maximum retail prices. In the year ended 30th April, 1952 such prices were fixed by Order at 4¾d. per pint for the five months commencing 1st May, 1951; 5¾d. per pint for the six months commencing 1st October, 1951, and 5½d. per pint for the month of April, 1952. In the current year ending 30th April, 1964 the maximum retail price, including turnover tax, is 6½d. per pint.
