Vol. 209 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Safety Helmets.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has as yet made any regulation making compulsory the wearing of safety helmets by riders and passengers on auto cycles and motor cycles; and, if not, whether he will arrange to have such regulations brought into force immediately in the interest of public safety.

No regulations have yet been made in the matter. The whole question of safety helmets, including that of ensuring compliance of helmets with proper standards and their use by motor cyclists, is at present under consideration and I hope to issue a statement later this year.
