Vol. 209 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carlanstown (Meath) Estate.

41.

asked the Minister for Lands if negotiations for the acquisition of the Kolln Estate, Drakerath, Carlanstown, Kells, County Meath, are still in progress; and when it is expected that finality will be reached in the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a previous question about this estate on 29th October last. Some progress has resulted from the confidential discussions referred to in that reply but I am as yet unable to forecast when the matter will be finalised.

Is the Minister aware that this property was advertised for sale in an English paper a couple of weeks ago?

I am not so aware. All I can do is to reiterate that negotiations of a confidential nature are still proceeding.

Would the Minister say whether or not he can contradict the rumour which is being spread in the area that the Land Commission do not now intend to acquire the lands?

I do not propose to waste my time contradicting rumours circulating in Meath.

In view of the fact that the Minister's Party has been responsible for spreading the rumour, perhaps the Minister would reconsider the matter?
