Vol. 209 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abatement of Army Officers' Pensions.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance whether a decision has yet been reached as to abatement of pensions payable to ex-officers of the Defence Forces, who are re-engaged in State employment; and whether he can now make a full statement on the matter.

The position is as indicated in my reply to the question asked by Deputy Cosgrave on 25th February last.

Can the Minister not give us more information as to when this desirable reform is to be carried out? The Minister's last reply was that he had the matter under review and expected an early decision.

I told Deputy Cosgrave on that occasion that I thought a revision of the present procedure was warranted but it will require legislation, and I am having the necessary steps taken to have the legislation prepared. I could not say when the Bill will be introduced.
