Vol. 209 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import of Anthracite.

10.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power for what purpose duff anthracite has been imported into this country; and if he is aware that there is at present sufficient duff anthracite available which cannot be marketed.

11.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will impose a restriction on the import of nuts anthracite in view of the fact that there is sufficient being produced at the present time to meet the needs of the home market, of better quality and at a cheaper rate.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 10 and 11 together.

I am not aware that any anthracite duff has been imported during the last 12 months. I have had no intimation from the mine owners that they are having difficulty in marketing either anthracite duff or nuts. Home production of anthracite nuts is not sufficient to meet demand and there are no grounds for restricting imports of them.
