44.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in relation to Part VII of the Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963 (a) when the part of the Act will commence, and (b) if it will give local authorities any additional powers to acquire land for any of the purposes of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1952.

The Local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963 will be brought into operation in its entirely when the necessary regulations under the Act have been made. As regards the second part of the question, the answer is "no".

When does the Minister think he will be in a position to operate the Act?

I am hoping one thing and thinking another. I may express the hope that it will be a matter of not more than two months.
