Vol. 209 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Laois Lands.

60.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to allot the estate of Sémus Burke (Record No. S. 22543) at Ballinahown, and Garryheather, Clonaslee, County Laois amongst the many local and deserving smallholders and others who require additional land, having regard to the congestion which exists in this district.

61.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide amongst the many local deserving applicants and smallholders in the area the lands of the representatives of Martin Lyons deceased (Record No. 22357), known as the Lyons Estate, the Island, Abbeyleix, County Laois; and if he will make a statement in relation to the present position of the holding.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 60 and 61 together.

The Lyons estate, comprising 135 acres, passed into the possession of the Land Commission at the end of January last.

Agreement has been reached for purchase of the Burke estate, containing 123 acres, and I understand that arrangements for possession will be made shortly.

It is still too early to indicate when allotment of these two properties will be feasible but there will be no avoidable delay.
