Vol. 209 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Decimal Coinage System.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance what is the present position regarding the proposal to alter this country's present coinage system and to adopt the metric system.

The Government decided in principle in February, 1962, that a decimal system of currency should be adopted and that a working party, representative of the Central Bank and Government Departments should be set up to advise on the timing of its adoption and other related matters. I understand that the working party is at present drafting its report and that it should be available shortly.
