Vol. 209 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Food Hygiene Regulations.

6.

asked the Minister for Health the number of prosecutions carried out in Dublin city for alleged contraventions of the Food Hygiene Regulations during the year 1963, and the number of convictions obtained.

I feel that the Deputy could more appropriately have addressed his question to the Dublin Health Authority, of which he is a member. In order to facilitate him on this occasion, however, I have obtained the following particulars from the health authority:—

Thirty-five prosecutions in respect of contraventions of the Food Hygiene Regulations in the Dublin city area were instituted in 1963. Convictions were obtained in 18 of these cases and the Probation Act was applied in 12 cases; in two cases the proceedings were abandoned, in one case the summons could not be served and two cases are not concluded.
