Vol. 209 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Vocational School.

74.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Education when work on the erection of a vocational school in Ballyfermot, Dublin will commence and be completed; the number of pupils for which the school will cater; and the subjects which will be taught there.

Tenders have recently been invited by the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee for the erection of the new vocational school at Ballyfermot, and while I cannot say precisely when building work will commence or finish, it is likely that the contract will be placed in the near future.

The school will provide accommodation for 240 boys in full-time day continuation courses. The subjects of these courses will include Irish, English, mathematics, manual instruction, drawing, science, physical training and religious instruction. Other subjects, for example languages or art, may also be taught. Evening classes for adults will be provided, as far as feasible, in those subjects for which there may be a demand.
