Vol. 209 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Supply to Dublin Barracks.

90.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Defence the date upon which the new electricity supply to married quarters in Cathal Brugha Barracks, Rathmines, Dublin, was made available; if he is aware that the supply is still unsatisfactory; and that users of television sets are obliged to use boosters to obtain satisfactory reception; and if he will have further steps taken to ensure that there is no further delay in providing an ample modern standard of electricity supply.

The soldiers' married quarters at Cathal Brugha Barracks were connected to the new underground cable on 27 Márta, 1964. I am not aware that the electricity supply to the quarters in question is still unsatisfactory. I am advised that the provision of the new underground cable and the rewiring of the quarters where necessary have resulted in a supply which is satisfactory by modern standards and that the occupants of the quarters using television sets have now no cause for complaint attributable to the electricity supply.

Mr. Ryan

Will the Minister for Defence refer the complaint to the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs for attention by his Department?

They have done their job well.

Mr. Ryan

Can the Minister explain what defence problem or other problem is involved which causes the television sets to give very bad reception at about 9 o'clock each evening?

It is no different from the common experience.

Mr. Ryan

That is not the experience in Rathmines.
