Vol. 209 No. 9

Written Answers. - Yield of Taxation on Foodstuffs.

99.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount collected by the taxation of foodstuffs for the year ended 31st March 1964 in the form of a reply to Question No. 24 of 15th May, 1963.

The amount collected by way of turnover tax on receipts from sales of foodstuffs is not separately available. The revenue derived from customs duties on imports of foodstuffs in the year ended 31st March, 1964 was approximately £1.5 million. No consumer subsidies, as such, were payable on foodstuffs in that year, but the price support arrangements for dairy produce have the effect of reducing the price of creamery butter to domestic consumers below the economic price.
