Vol. 209 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Geneva Trade Talks.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if this country will be represented at ministerial level at the trade expansion talks at Geneva; and, of so, by what Minister.

I assume the Deputy has in mind the trade negotiations known as the Kennedy Round which are expected to commence in Geneva next aumumn under the aegis of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. It is not possible yet to decide at what level it would be appropriate for this country to be represented at these negotiations. An observer delegation, led by our Ambassador to Switzerland, attended a meeting last week of the Trade Negotiations Committee of the GATT, which is responsible for the preparatory arrangements for the negotiations.
