Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clashmore (Waterford) Dispensary.

7.

asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in building the dispensary at Clashmore, County Waterford; and when it is hoped that work will be undertaken.

The provision of a new dispensary to serve the Clashmore dispensary district is primarily a matter for the Waterford Health Authority.

Some time ago my Department approved of the proposed purchase of a site at Clashmore for a new dispensary building but progress was at first delayed pending a review by the health authority of the boundaries of dispensary districts in the area. The authority later decided to postpone this review and to proceed with the new dispensary at Clashmore. Since then, I understand that some delay has been experienced in completing the legal formalities for the acquisition of the site but it is expected that these formalities will soon be completed. As it is intended to plan the new building in accordance with a standard design recommended by the Department, there should be no undue delay in completing the planning and inviting tenders for the work.

asked the Minister for Health the reason for the delay in building the dispensary residence at Clashmore, County Waterford; and when it is hoped that work will be undertaken.

Some time ago my Department approved of the proposal to provide a new dispensary residence on the site of the existing residence at Clashmore, which was regarded as no longer suitable. The contract for the building of the residence has been advertised by the local authority on two occasions but I understand that, due to difficulty experienced on each occasion in arranging adequate surety for the due performance of the contract, it was not possible to complete the contract formalities for carrying out the work. I am informed, however, that the health authority propose to advertise the contract again very soon.
