asked the Minister for Local Government the current number of applications for houses with all local bodies in the country.

The information requested by the Deputy is not available in my Department.

Can the Minister indicate why such important information is not available?

For the very simple reason that the local authorities are not required to furnish such information. It is not regarded as very important because applications alone do not indicate anything of a definite nature.

They are not important?

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Local Government the number of approved applicants for local authority houses on 31st March, 1964 under Tipperary (South Riding) County Council.
