asked the Minister for Health (a) the date when the planning of a new St. Laurence's Hospital started, (b) the date of starting to plan a new nurses' home, and (c) the amount of money expended on these works to date.

While various tentative schemes for a new St. Laurence's Hospital had been under consideration for some years and a certain amount of preliminary planning had been carried out in relation to such schemes, effective planning work commenced only after final approval was given to a specific scheme in June, 1953. As I indicated in my reply to a question from the Deputy on 12th of this month, plans for a new nurses' home were included in the plans for the new hospital. Tentative proposals in relation to a nurses' home were also made by the hospital authority in March, 1960, as part of an outline scheme which envisaged the continued location of the hospital on the present site.
I have ascertained that the total amount paid to date by the hospital authority in respect of fees to consultants for planning work in connection with these projects is £65,367 4s. 4d.
