It is not possible to give a figure for 1963-64, as some returns of employers for that year have yet to be received by the Revenue Authorities. The numbers of persons who paid Income Tax under Pay As You Earn in 1962-63 and the previous two years were approximately as follows:

asked the Minister for Finance the total net produce of tax under Schedules A, B, C, D and E in each of the past seven years, indicating in respect of Schedule E the amount payable in each year in respect of the Pay As You Earn scheme.
The net produce of tax under the various schedules can be calculated only when the assessments for a given year are finally determined; 1961-62 is the latest year for which statistics are as yet available. Figures of net produce for the five years up to and including 1961-62 are set out in a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.
As regards the years 1962-63 and 1963-64 the only statistics as yet available relate to the net receipt of tax, which cannot be apportioned fully over the various Schedules. Such information as is available is included in the statement, but it will be appreciated that figures of net receipt and net produce are not homogeneous.
