Vol. 211 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Arrears of Children's Allowances.

77.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when he proposes to have paid to an tUasal Gearóid Ó Cuinneagáin, 11 Páirc na Blarnan, Ath Cliath, the arrears of children's allowance due to him in respect of the two years to 30th June 1954, payment of which has been withheld for ten years because of the insistence by an tUasal Ó Cuinneagáin that the Irish language be used by the representatives of the State, as by himself, at every stage of his application for initial payment of children's allowance money.

The person named by the Deputy submitted a claim for children's allowance on 2nd June, 1954, and in accordance with the relevant regulations he was awarded an allowance as from 1st July, 1954. He appealed against the effective date of the award but the decision of the deciding officer in that respect was upheld by an appeals officer. There are, therefore, no arrears of children's allowance due to him.
