asked the Minister for Education the total number of (a) full-time and (b) part-time pupils on rolls in vocational schools (i) in 1953/54 and (ii) in 1961/62; the increase in the number of full-time enrolments and the increase or decrease in part-time vocational pupils over the same period; and the total number of additional full-time pupils enrolled in the year 1961/62 and the approximate average capital expenditure per pupil place for each such extra pupil.

The total numbers of whole-time pupils in vocational schools in the years 1953/54 and 1961/62, respectively, were 20,466 and 28,325.

The total numbers of part-time pupils in vocational schools in the years 1953/54 and 1961/62, respectively, were 70,500 and 68,576.

As between the years 1953/54 and 1961/62, there was an increase of 7,859 in whole-time enrolments, and a decrease of 1,924 in part-time enrolments.

The increase in the number of whole-time pupils in the year 1961/62, as compared with 1960/61, was 1,175.

It is not possible to calculate the average annual capital expenditure involved in providing accommodation for a whole-time pupil in a vocational school.
