Vol. 211 No. 8

Committee on Finance. - Vote 12—Civil Service Commission.

I move:

That a sum not exceeding £12,190 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1965, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Civil Service Commission and of the Local Appointments Commission.

I hear a considerable number of complaints about delays by both these bodies in producing nominations for posts that have been declared vacant.

On the staff?

Not on the staffs of the bodies. When county councils send requisitions for selection to the Local Appointments Commission, there are complaints about unnecessary delays that take place. I do not know whether the Local Appointments Commission are the concern of the Minister for Local Government and whether it is to him I should address this query. I should like to know the average time it takes the Commission to send down a nominee's name to a local authority after the statutory request has been made. I do not expect the Minister to answer me now but I should be glad if he would send me a note on it.

I shall do that.

Vote put and agreed to.
