Vol. 212 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tenanted Lands

62.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in connection with tenanted lands the difference between land held by joint tenants and land held by tenants in common in so far as tenants seek transfers to other holdings.

Applications for migration are considered by the Land Commissioners on their merits, the primary consideration being the usefulness of the applicant's lands for land settlement purposes. As prospective migrants the classes of tenant mentioned in the Question would have equal claims to consideration. The Deputy will appreciate, however, that in determining applications from tenants in either category, the individual circumstances of the applicants, including their ability to surrender their existing lands to the Land Commission, would have to be considered.
