Vol. 212 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wexford Telephone Service.

81.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware of the abnormal delay in the provision of telephone service to applicants in County Wexford; and what steps he proposes to take to eliminate this delay.

Delay in providing service for applicants in the area in question is due to the concentration of staff on urgent trunk work in the district. The position is kept under continual review and it is expected that the waiting list will be substantially reduced within the next year.

Will the Minister admit that there is a substantial delay?

Nobody seems to be able to get a telephone down there at all.

I shall be answering another question in that connection immediately.

82.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number of outstanding applications for telephone service in County Wexford at 1st October, 1962, 1963 and 1964; and the number of applicants in County Wexford who were provided with telephone service during each of the years ended 1st October, 1962, 1963 and 1964.

The number of outstanding applications on the dates in question was 250, 230 and 303 respectively.

The number of telephones installed during the periods in question was 200, 210 and 180 respectively.

It seems to be getting progressively worse from 1963 to 1964.

Very soon, it will begin to get progressively better.

The sooner the better.

The sun is always going to shine tomorrow.

The essential work was being done for the past five years.
