asked the Minister for Education if he will make a statement regarding the proposal to build a new primary school at Swords, indicating (a) the area of the site, (b) the estimated cost of building the school, (c) the number of (1) boys and (2) girls who will be accommodated, (d) whether post-primary education will be given, (e) the estimated number of pupils for which accommodation will be provided, (f) the number of class rooms and additional accommodation intended to be provided, (g) whether plans have been approved by the Department, (h) whether tenders from building contractors will be invited soon, and (i) whether extra teachers will be required in the new school.

Because of the condition of the existing national schools in Swords it has been decided to build two new schools, one for boys, the other for girls. The detailed information sought by the Deputy is as follows:

(a) The area of the site is about 7 acres;

(b) The estimated cost is in the region of £120,000;

(c) Accommodation for 375 boys and 375 girls will be provided;

(d) It is not intended to provide post-primary education in the new schools;

(e) The total accommodation is for 750 pupils;

(f) There will be sixteen classrooms, an assembly hall and usual administrative rooms;

(g) Plans have been approved by the Department;

(h) The Reverend Manager has been authorised to accept a tender;

(i) It is not possible at this stage to state whether extra teachers will be required.
