Vol. 212 No. 3

Writ for East Galway.

I move:

That the Ceann Comhairle direct the Clerk of the Dáil to issue his Writ for the election of a member to fill the vacancy which has occurred in the membership of the present Dáil consequent on the death of Deputy Michael Donnellan, a member for the County Constituency of East Galway.

On a point of order, I submit that Deputy Blowick has no right to move this writ. Deputy Blowick has been repudiated as a member of the Clann na Talmhan Party. He purports to move this Writ as a member of the Clann na Talmhan Party but because of his participation in the selection in Galway of a Fine Gael candidate to contest the seat vacated by the late Deputy Donnellan who is on record as repudiating the detested policies advocated from the Blueshirt benches he must be a member of the Fine Gael Party. If Deputy Blowick has joined the Fine Gael Party he has a right to move the Writ, but otherwise the Fine Gael Party should move it.

This is not a point of order. It is Fianna Fáil dirt.

Deputy Blowick, I submit, has no right to move this Writ.

Deputy Sweetman was ashamed to move it himself.

What is wrong is that when Deputy Lenihan saw Mr. Donnellan he would not take your nomination and told you to go to blazes.

The farmers of Galway have had a farmers' representative and they will not have a Blueshirt.

(Interruptions.)

He said he would not be associated with you dead or alive.

(Interruptions.)

This is not in keeping with the dignity of the House.

I hope your words, Sir, are addressed to the Minister for Lands.

They sent Deputy Lenihan down to him——

Has Deputy Blowick joined Fine Gael? We are entitled to know whether Deputy Blowick has joined or rejoined the Blueshirts? The people of Galway want to know where he stands.

He does not know himself.

(Interruptions.)

What about the battering rams, if you want to be dirty?

If Deputy Sweetman wants to deal with that, I will deal with it, too. I advise him to keep his mouth shut.

Deputy Sweetman is not in the least afraid of Deputy Moran.

I hope you are proud of your Minister. This is a most disedifying spectacle.

Question put and agreed to.
