Vol. 213 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cong (Mayo) School.

11.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the only suitable site for a new school in Cong, County Mayo, is on land owned by the Forestry Section of his Department; and if he will have sanction for the sale of a site expedited.

An application to the Forestry Division of my Department for a plot of land for the erection of a new school at Cong, County Mayo, is being considered. I am not yet in a position to say whether the application will be granted.

Is the Minister aware that this application has been in hands for a very long time and that the existing school has been condemned by the health authority? As a result the matter of a decision is of extreme urgency.

I understand that the Department of Lands is in communication with the Department of Education and the Office of Public Works at the moment in regard to this matter.

Could I ask the Minister to use his best endeavours to ensure that an early reply is sent to the parish priest?

I will draw the Minister's attention to the matter.
