Vol. 213 No. 2

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business in the following order: Nos. 10, 11, 12 and 14. Private Members' business will be taken from 6.30 to 7.30 p.m. and the debate will be resumed on No. 23. When the business ordered for today is completed, the Dáil will adjourn until 3 p.m. on Wednesday next.

We are not sitting tomorrow?

If the business is finished, no.

You have nothing to do tomorrow?

The main business now to be completed is the Succession Bill and the Report Stage of the Land Bill, and I think the House would prefer to take these next week.

When is the Succession Bill being taken?

Next Wednesday.

Has the Taoiseach given any further consideration to the question as to whether it might not be better to redraft the Succession Bill?

We have, yes. It will be taken next Wednesday.

A new Bill?

We are in this difficult position. We understand from statements made outside the House that a vast number of amendments are to be introduced which radically alter the whole Bill.

The Minister will circulate a supplementary memorandum.

Is it proposed that we will have the Bill next week with a memorandum explaining the amendments the Minister intends to produce on Committee Stage?

That seems to be a very bacach way of doing our business?

It is by far the most expeditious way.

When will the memorandum be circulated?

Before Wednesday.

When was it decided to take the Mines and Quarries Bill this afternoon? I inquired yesterday afternoon and was told it was not being taken.

I do not think the Deputy will have to dig too deep to dispose of that Bill.

There are a number of potholes into which a Party could fall.

Could the Taoiseach indicate what else might be taken next week?

The Local Loans Bill and some minor Bills. The principal business in the Second Stage of the Succession Bill and the Report Stage of the Land Bill.

We will also be taking the seat in East Galway next week.

The pressure is building up there.
