Vol. 213 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Siting of Dublin Cement Plant.

64.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether in view of the adverse report on health grounds submitted by the city medical officer on the siting of the proposed cement machinery plant at South Lotts Road, Ringsend, Dublin, he will recommend to the Corporation that in the interests of public health the proposal be discontinued.

This matter is still being considered by the Corporation in consultation with the firm concerned and I understand that on 20th November the firm agreed to suspend work on the South Lotts Road site for a fortnight pending the outcome of further discussions with the Corporation. It would not be appropriate for me to recommend any particular course of action to the Corporation.

Has the Minister for Local Government or the Minister for Health power to override the decision of the Corporation in this matter?

If the Corporation should decide eventually to seek to revoke the permission in this case, an appeal would lie to the Minister.
