Vol. 213 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of Privately Built Houses.

8.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will carry out an investigation into the present prices of privately built houses, investigating in particular the proportion of the present steep increases in house prices which is due to increased material, labour costs or profits.

I have received no recent complaints about increases in the prices of privately built houses and I am not satisfied that an investigation as suggested in the question is necessary. It is evident that there is competition in the building and sale of private houses. However, if the Deputy will be good enough to give me particulars of any case in which, to his knowledge, a steep increase in price has occurred, I will have inquiries made.

Question No. 9 postponed.
