Vol. 213 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of British Television Viewing Area.

34.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will initiate negotiations with the British authorities with a view to having the viewing area for BBC and Independent Television programmes in this country extended to cover all areas.

The answer is no.

Does the Minister feel it is time that the anomaly whereby many people in Dublin and certain parts of the country can enjoy the facilities of BBC and UTV television should be extended to the rest of the country? Does he not think the people are entitled to that?

I do not think so. My function is to make sure, as far as I possibly can, that Telefís Éireann broadcasts are received in all parts of the country.

The Pale is being resurrected.
