Vol. 213 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Temporary Telephonists.

35.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will make regulations whereby temporary telephonists who have given satisfactory service over a period of years will receive appointments as telephonists and get credit for pension purposes for all or part of the service given as temporary telephonists.

Confined competitions for established positions as telephonists are held from time to time by the Civil Service Commissioners to enable temporary telephonists to compete for established appointments. The last such competition was held in 1962 and the question of holding a further competition is being considered at present. Under existing regulations previous temporary service of telephonists who are successful in these competitions is taken into account for pension purposes subject to certain conditions.
