Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Gaeltacht Underdeveloped Areas.

18.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the statement in Part 2 of the Second Programme for Economic Expansion regarding State grants approved during the period between 1st April, 1959 and 31st March, 1964 for projects located in the underdeveloped areas, he will state with regard to the Gaeltacht sections of these areas (a) the nature of projects established, (b) their location and (c) the number employed in each.

In the period 1st April, 1959 to 31st March, 1964 seven industries or extensions to existing industries were established in Gaeltacht areas with the aid of grants under the Undeveloped Areas Acts, 1952 to 1963. Of these, three are located in County Donegal, two in County Galway and one each in Counties Kerry and Mayo. The projects involve the production of knitwear, hand-woven fabrics, canned vegetables, processed fish and cream separating.

It is not the practice to disclose the numbers employed by individual firms.

In addition to the enterprises mentioned, a number of other industrial projects has been established or extended in Gaeltacht areas in the period in question. The majority of these are operated by Gaeltarra Éireann.
