Vol. 213 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ferns (Wexford) Car Park.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a grant available to the Wexford County Council for the surfacing of the centre used for car parking in Ferns, County Wexford.

I have not received any proposal for such work from the Wexford County Council. If a proposal is received, it will be considered on its merits.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give an amenity grant to the Ferns Development Association for the surfacing of an area outside the Church of Ireland Parish Church, Ferns, County Wexford in view of the fact that the Development Association and other individuals are contributing towards the general improvement of that area.

In general the provision of car parks does not qualify for assistance under the Department's scheme of amenity grants, although exceptions may be made where the car park is part of the development of a scenic area or of a recreational resort.

It is not possible, therefore, to allocate an amenity schemes grant for the proposal referred to in the Deputy's question.
