Vol. 213 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Speed Limit and Traffic Signs.

30.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received representations from a person (details supplied) recommending the introduction of a speed limit and the erection of certain traffic signs; and, if so, what action he proposes to take in the matter.

I have received the representations in question. The person making them was informed to the general effect of my reply to the Deputy's Questions of 4th November last, namely, that current investigations preparatory to the amendment of the Road Traffic (Speed Limits) Regulations, 1963, are being confined to arterial roads and that the village in question is not on such a route, but that it will be considered when the review of speed limits on non-arterial roads is carried out in the coming year.

Responsibility for the provision of traffic signs, other than speed limit signs, rests with the road authorities, who act at the request or with the consent of the Garda Síochána. The question of providing certain traffic signs at this village has been referred to the county council and the Garda Commissioner for their attention.
