Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of persons (a) in the State and (b) in the area of the Dublin Health Authority in receipt of non-contributory widows' pensions; and the number of dependants of such persons in respect of whom (i) any allowances are paid and (ii) weekly allowances of five shillings are paid.

The number of persons in receipt of widows' non-contributory pensions in the State at 30th June, 1964, which is the latest date for which statistics are available, was 22,493. Allowances were paid in respect of 7,416 dependants of such persons, 4,369 of them at the weekly rate of 5/-.

The corresponding figures for the area of the Dublin Health Authority were 2,665, 671, and 395.
