Vol. 213 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salaries of Dublin Vocational Committee Staff.

23.

asked the Minister for Education if he intends to sanction the decision made by Dublin Vocational Education Committee on 1st November, 1964, in respect of salaries for higher grade staff, including senior clerical officers.

24.

asked the Minister for Education why the trade union representing higher grade staff, including senior clerical officers, employed by the Dublin Vocational Education Committee, has to date received no explanation as to the cause of delay in adjusting the salary scales of the staff concerned.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 23 and 24 together.

Proposals made by the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee to award higher salary scales to senior grades in the administrative staff are at present under consideration in my Department. I am not yet in a position to say when I will be able to give a decision on them.

Having regard to the fact that other employees of the City of Dublin Vocational Educational Committee have had their salaries adjusted, would he not regard this as urgent and get a decision as quickly as possible?

The decision will be reached as quickly as possible but it cannot be reached in isolation. There are other groups which have to be considered in relation to this.

Can the Minister indicate when those groups will be satisfied?

It is not a matter of satisfaction. I cannot get a decision in isolation but it will be done as quickly as possible.

What does "as quickly as possible" mean—weeks or months?

The only substitutes I can give for those words are more words.
