Vol. 213 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Howth (Dublin) Court Sittings.

32.

asked the Minister for Justice if in view of reports of congestion at a recent sitting of Howth Court, County Dublin he will arrange for additional sittings in Howth.

I am aware that, due to an exceptionally large number of cases being listed for hearing, there was congestion at the sitting of the District Court in Howth on last Monday.

The number of sittings per year in Howth was increased from 24 to 30 in the early part of this year. While I am prepared to increase further the number of sittings, should this prove necessary, it may be possible to avoid congestion, without additional sittings or limiting the number of cases per sitting, by arranging that the cases for hearing are divided into two separate lists, one for the morning session and the other for the afternoon session. The necessary steps are being taken with a view to having this change made, and I shall keep the matter under review.
