Vol. 213 No. 6

Pensions (Abatement) Bill, 1964: First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to modify statutory provisions relating to abatement of pensions, gratuities and allowances in respect of public service.
—(Minister for Finance).

I do not know if the Minister is in a position to do it today, but could he give us any hint as to what the purpose of the Bill is?

As the Deputy is aware, a great many questions have been addressed to me recently about abatement of pensions of public servants when such servants leave one service and are subsequently employed in another service. The purpose of the Bill is to make——

Provisions in regard to that.

——modifications in the present law.

I am much obliged.

Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 10th February, 1965.
