Vol. 213 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Airport Passenger Traffic.

15.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if his attention has been drawn to a statement issued by the Limerick Junior Chamber of Commerce, which expressed grave concern about the official attitude of Aer Lingus in relation to Shannon Airport; and, if so, if he will take steps to ensure that Aer Lingus will play its part in promoting passenger traffic through Shannon by providing adequate services between Britain and Shannon.

My attention has been drawn to the statement. It is, I understand, based on press reports which appear to have been inaccurate and to have given no indication of the context in which the comments complained of were made. I am satisfied that Aer Lingus is playing its part in promoting traffic through Shannon and the services to be provided between Shannon and Britain during the coming year are expected to be adequate to meet demands.
