Vol. 213 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Examination of Statutory Instruments.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if in view of the complexity of modern legislation and the necessity for delegating to Government Departments the responsibility of implementing the various Acts by subordinate legislation, i.e. rules, regulations and orders, he will give favourable consideration to the setting up of a Dáil committee, on the lines of that operating in the British House of Commons, in order that the nature and effect of these statutory instruments may be fully examined.

As reports of the Select Committee of Seanad Éireann on Statutory Instruments are published periodically, the implementation of the Deputy's suggestion would involve unnecessary duplication of effort.

Could the Taoiseach say how often they are published?

Once a year, I think.

When was the last one issued?

I would require notice of that question.
